Mini-Rugby 2013 (Birth years: 2000 - 2007)

minisNo Matter what your shape or size, you're made for rugby! And you don't have to wait till you're old enough to be a professional - play Abbotsford Mini Rugby!  Tall or short, fast or not-so-fast, big or little, girl or boy – there’s a place for you to have great safe fun playing Mini-Rugby, one of the world’s fastest growing team sports for kids!  Mini rugby is all about training, learning and behaving just like the pros do, so thaT by the time you're ready to try out for the pro jersey, you've got the skills and speed you need to be awesome on the pitch.

2013 Fees for 2001 - 2007 (no kit needed):  $97.00

2013 Fees for 2000 (no kit needed):  $131.55

2013 kit cost for 2001 - 2007: $70.00

2013 kit cost for 2000: $35.45

*ARFC kit is required, kit includes jersey, shorts and socks - kit pick up and payment dates are Sunday, Jan 27 and Feb 2 from 10 - 2 pm at the ARFC clubhouse (31929 Mercantile Way).  Please bring proof of online registration and payment with you.

Practices
Practices are Sundays from 10:00 am - 11:30 am from the first Sunday of Feb. till the end of April.  Practices will be located at McMillan Park behind the Abbotsford Recreation Centre.  Mini-Rugby players compete at mini exchanges and Jamborees between other clubs in the lower mainland.  Older age groups may practice during the week depending on coaching staff and field availability usually after daylight savings time change . Most jamborees begin at 10:00am, but parents will be notified of details each week prior to jamborees. We welcome new players at any time.  Come out at any time to try it out.

FYI:  mini rugby exchanges are games between one or more clubs. Mini rugby jamborees are games between several clubs at a posted venue. 

What to Bring?

Footwear
Cleats or molded studs only (No metal studs) – regular soccer boots are ideal for mini-rugby.

Mouth Guard
All players from grade 4 and up must wear a properly fitted mouth guard. (available from sports stores, drug stores and dentists)

Clothing
Dress for the weather.

At all times the age and safety guidelines of the International Rugby Board (www.irfb.com) are followed.  All members in the program are covered by the BCRU playing insurance (consent forms must be completed by parents prior to participation).  Various aspects of the game are introduced as each child gains experience and knowledge of the game.  The program is a structured to teach the basics of the game by introducing the laws of the game gradually.  A summary of the program is shown below:

Division K & Grade 1   (5 players)
Size 3 ball, no tackling – two handed touch, no kicking, free pass start (opposition back 7m) & the game is played across the field.

Division Grade 2 & 3   (5 players)
Size 3 ball, no tackling – two handed touch, no kicking, free pass start (opposition back 7m) & the game played across the field.

Division Grade 4 & 5   (7 players)
Size 4 ball, 3 person scrum, 2 person line-out, tackling is gradually introduced, no kicking & the game played across the field.

Division Grade 6 & 7   (7 players)
Size 5 ball, 7- aside, 3 person scrum , 2 person line-out , tackling, no kicking & the game played across the field.
