Abbotsford Coach Jason Young Wins Award

Jason Young has become the honoured recipient of the 2009 Gerald McGavin Coaching Award (GMCA).  This special award acknowledges BC rugby coaches who have left an indelible mark on their rugby community and also offers them an opportunity to experience professional rugby abroad.

Appeldoorn Makes Canada U-20

altKurtis Appeldoorn of the Abbotsford Rugby Club has been selected as one of 26 players chosen to represent Canada at the U-20 World Competition in Moscow in May. Kurtis was one of the captains of the Abbotsford U-19 Tier 1 team who won the BC Championship in December over James Bay, the first U-19 Title for the club in nearly a decade. Kurtis has recently earned a starting spot at center with the Abbotsford men's top side and will be wished well in his endeavors with Canada U-20.

Fraser Valley U-17 Beats Canada U-17

Fraser Valley U-17 Beats Canada U-17 by a score of 19-18!

Abbotsford players scored 14 of the 19 points in the win for the Valley over the U-17 Canada development squad touring BC. Despite Canada opening in the scoring with a try in the corner, the Valley squad was able to come back and secure the win in a high energy, hotly contested battle. Christian Styles (Yale) and Justin Douglas (Bateman) each scored a try with Tyson Appeldoorn (Mouat) adding 2 converts. Riley Locker (Bayside) also scored a try in the game.

Congratulations to all Abbotsford Youth teams on very successful seasons.  Here is a summary of award winners for all youth age groups.  It was very difficult for coaches to decide on these awards due to the high caliber of play by many individuals. All players had an important role in their team’s success this year.
 
These names will be engraved on plaques and posted at the clubhouse. Also, check for updates on the website for championship pictures and award winner names...
