Youth sevens trials scheduled for late January.
Vancouver head coach of the BC Elite Youth Sevens program Shane Thompson is holding a series of open trials to identify players for the upcoming 2011 Western Canada Summer Games.
All male players born in 1995 are invited to either a trial held in Vancouver at UBC's Wolfson Fields or at UVic's Wallace Field.
The Western Canada Summer Games, scheduled for August 5-14 in Kamloops, BC, will feature rugby sevens instead of the more traditional 15-a-side game. To prepare for the upcoming season, Thompson is hoping to identify more rugby players capable of playing the high-tempo, abbreviated version of rugby.
"It is exciting to see sevens as part of the Western Canada Games and it shows how rugby sevens is becoming increasingly popular in multi-sport events," Thompson said ahead of the trials. "This tournament will be a great opportunity to see how BC sevens teams measure up against other provincial programs."
Thompson is also looking at scheduling trials in the Okanagan region with dates still yet to be confirmed.
