The Abbotsford Rugby Club is sad to announce the passing of Lifetime Member Mike Lewis on June 23rd, 2011 due to complications of cancer surgery. Mike was a founder of the Abbotsford Rugby Club in 1972 and served as player, coach, executive member, and ARFC's biggest supporter. Mike was given the honour of Lifetime Member of the ARFC due to his tireless service to rugby over the years. One of Mike's highlights was coaching the 2002 Division 1 Men's team to Abbotsford's first ever BC Championship.
Mike's no nonsense approach to coaching and passion for rugby was loved by all the players that played for him. Not only was he influential with the ARFC, but he also taught and coached at Abbotsford Junior for thirty one years. Mike Lewis leaves a lasting legacy as many of today's coaches in rugby played for Mike at some point during his career and his passion for the game has left a lasting impact with these coaches.
Mike Lewis will be will be missed by his family in Canada and in the United Kingdom, as well as all of those he crossed paths with on the field, in the clubhouse, or in other areas of his life. Thank you Mike for all you gave to everyone.
On Saturday, July 16th at 4:00pm there will be what Mike called a Bon Voyage Celebration at the ARFC Clubhouse. All are welcome to attend. Appetizers and refreshments will be served as we celebrate the life of a great man. Please pass on the information to all those who knew Mike Lewis.
