The Rugby Canada Management staff have recently announced that the Canadian Maple Leafs team coming to the Abbotsford International 7's Rugby Tournament will be running a free rugby sevens session on Friday, July 23 at 5pm at Rotary Stadium following their training session. Youth players from grades 6-12 are encouraged to attend the session to learn sevens skills and meet the players. Local Abbotsford player Kurtis Appeldoorn is one of the members of the Canadian Maple Leaf team competing in the Abbotsford 7's.
The Canadian Maple Leafs are sponsored by the Canadian Rugby Foundation, a registered charity that is building endowed funds to support the growth of rugby in Canada for boys and girls from coast to coast. By supporting the Canadian Maple Leafs, the Canadian Rugby Foundation hopes to facilitate the development of rugby sevens in Canada in an effort to support Rugby Canada so that we are competitive at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. It is the main sponsor of the Canadian Maple Leafs at the 2010 Abbotsford 7s Tournament.
