Rugby was back on the minds of Abbotsford High School students as a team from Gravesend, England were in town to face WJ Mouat secondary. Mouat had faced the excellent Gravesend team in last March while on their UK tour, and was a great surprise to have them return to Canada for a rematch.
Mouat students were not alone in the u17 and u18 games that took place. Players from Yale, Bateman, Hansen and Sardis joined the Hawks, making it closer to an Abbotsford select team, and gave the Gravesend boys some more seasoned competition.
The first game saw the u17 boys face off, and the game turned out to be much closer than most expected. The game was tied 14 all for the majority, before 2 late tries by Gravesend put the game out of reach. Jon Martin fro Bateman, and Cody Ramsay from Yale scored the tries for the Canadians. Patrick Shields converted both on his was to being selected "Man of the Match". Final score was 28-14 for Gravesend.
Game two was a more lopsided affair. Gravesend scored early and often before Team Canada Mouat student, Kurtis Appledoorn scored the lone try for the home team. Final score was 47-7 for Gravesend.
In all, it was a great evening of rugby, and the Mouat coaches thank the parents, coaches and players from across Abbotsford and Sardis for helping with the game and making the English players and coaches feel welcome.
